Our Underlying Philosophy
When you spend almost half of your waking hours at work, you should look forward to the challenges, successes and experiences that you can earn in your profession. When looking for a job, you should look for a company that is looking to do more than just get every possible minute of work out of you. You should look for a company that is going to put in the time and effort to develop you for the next position, not expect that you do it solely on your own time. You should look for a company that understands that you probably won’t stay at the same company for your entire career, but instead seeks to help you gain the experience necessary to excel for your entire professional life.
Applying The Best Practices Of The Military To Corporate Life
A well-trained and functioning team outperforms groups of individuals every time. The only way to succeed is to have a cohesive team that is cross-trained and prepared to act on their own initiative. This comes from constant education, consistent development, trust, and empowerment. That is something we take seriously at The CP Journal.
We want people who can grow, learn, and thrive in a small business environment where the challenges and opportunities change from day to day. As a small company, there isn’t one single position for people who work solely in marketing, finance, customer service, sales, or any other function. Every job requires that we find people who can think critically, solve problems and aren’t intimidated at the thought of taking initiative in the absence of higher guidance.
But Not Taking Everything From The Military
Even with a flexible structure that is adaptive to the task at hand, we want to find the right person for the right job. There were times in the Marines where I watched great leaders get promoted out of a job where they had been excelling in order to fill a position with additional responsibilities that, in reality, they didn’t want. Because we are a small company, we have the ability to understand the strengths and motivations of each member of the team, and find the right job and the right position to fit their personal goals.
Layers of bureaucracy don’t exist here. Everyone here is first and foremost a producer. Because no one is simply overseeing and managing the efforts of others, we can ensure that any time we get together, collaborations occur, not directionless meetings.
The Values We Are Looking For
We don’t require that a candidate is an expert in human behavior, management, leadership, or any other field when they apply for a position; we just require that they are eager to learn those areas. Great teams are not built around skill – they are formed around character and then trained for skill. Learning is everything at The CP Journal. Whether it is through personal growth or teaching a client, education is the pillar that the rest of our company is built around.
Our ideal candidate is someone who can think critically, intelligently contribute to a conversation, isn’t afraid to take initiative, and embraces challenges. There is no such thing as the flawless candidate. If a candidate embraces self-awareness, capitalizes on strengths, and consciously develops weaknesses, they will find that they are going to fit in well here. That is the mindset we require at The CP Journal.
You Should Be Fulfilled By What You Do
There is more to work than just contributing to the bottom line. We wouldn’t be anywhere without the support of countless people who have helped and sacrificed for us. A key aspect of life at The CP Journal is giving back to the community that has given so much to us. Every employee will be given the opportunity to bring the company’s efforts to help support their cause, raise awareness, and help those in need.
